BC Government Increases Safety Regulations On Limos and Party Buses
As of May 1st, 2015 all limo and party bus operators in B.C. will be required to have a special license that allows them to operate under new safety regulations amended by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation. Now all limousines, stretch SUVs, party buses, and vehicles that have perimeter seating must have their fleets approved by the Passenger Transportation Board for special authorization.
The new authorization will regulate licence rates, areas of operations, and prevent adding any new vehicles to a fleet without preapproval. With this change, the Passenger Transportation Registrar will have information on all vehicles operating under the authority of the licence, and will know exactly where the vehicles are operating.
The new amendment is the result of a series of tragic events that happened over the past few months in B.C. Drivers and operators need to be more accountable for what goes on in their party buses and limos. Drinking alcohol on a party bus, limo, SUV or any vehicle is illegal and police will continue to enforce this law. In the event of any lawsuits or claims against the drivers/operators, third party liability insurance should be considered.
