Pre- and Post-trip Inspections Under BC’s Motor Vehicle Act (Division 27)
BC’ Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (Division 27) - Requirements for Pre- and Post-trip Inspections:
Commercial Drivers in BC must complete and document a pre-trip inspection at the beginning of each shift prior to operating the vehicle. The driver must also carry the current pre-trip report in the vehicle, in electronic or paper format. (Section 37.23)
All drivers must complete a post-trip inspection of the vehicle at the end of the final trip of the day, or where a trip lasts more than one day, one very subsequent day of the trip at the final rest stop of the day. However, as the Compliance Circular clarifies, a post-trip inspection report is only required if a defect is found. If there are no defects, it’s not necessary to create a post-trip inspection report.
