Trucks and Buses Will Get Electronic Stability Control
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finalized a rule mandating that all heavy trucks and large buses exceeding 26,000 pounds to include electronic stability controls systems to help reduce crashes. Electronic stability controls will make it easier for drivers to maintain control during a skid.
“Electronic stability control is a remarkable safety success story, a technology innovation that is already saving lives in passenger cars and light trucks,” says New York secretary of transportation.
The NHTSA is predicting that this new rule will help prevent:
- More than 1.700 crashes per year
- 649 injuries
- 49 fatalities
- Up to 56% of all rollover crashes
