ICBC Warns Buyers to Use Caution When Purchasing Vehicles Built with Glider Kits
Further to our November 15th 2013 article, “Was Your truck Built With a Glider kit? ICBC May Not Register It!” ICBC has issued a notice to purchasers about vehicles built with glider kits being improperly presented as brand new and fully compliant. This is not always the case.
Transport Canada is recommending that vehicle buyers use caution when purchasing vehicles constructed using glider kits (as oppose to ones reconstructed with a glider kit after a collision) as some of them do not comply with federal vehicle safety and emissions standards and importation requirements. Purchasers should be aware that ICBC will only register, licence and insure newly constructed vehicles with glider kits if they comply with federal and provincial requirements.
The situation is being investigated further with a potential follow up from ICBC. For more information on vehicles with glider kits or FAQs, please visit this article.
