UBC Tops Out World’s Tallest Wood-Frame Building

Under construction at the University of British Columbia Point Grey Campus, the $51.1 million Brock Commons Student Residence in Vancouver is now the world’s tallest wood framed building.

The UBC student housing tower, a design collaboration by Vancouver’s Acton Ostry Architects and Structural Engineer Fast + Epp, rises 18 stories high and reaches a stunning 178.8 (53 meters) tall.

Register Now For 2017 IFTA Licenses & Decals

Members operating under the International Fuel Tax Agreement are reminded to apply for 2017 IFTA licenses and decals no later than November 24th, 2016, in order to receive new versions by January 1, 2017.

IFTA licenses and decals for 2016 expire on December 31, 2016. The renewal fee is $100.

Carriers may apply online or by mail. Please see the Ministry of Finance Tax Notice 2016-004 for additional information and details on how to apply.

Operation Safe Driver Week, Oct 16-22

In 2013, there were a total of 3,602 deaths as a result of large truck crashes.

  • 16% were truck occupants
  • 67% were occupants of cars and other passenger vehicles

Many of these accidents were the direct results of drivers – both truck and bus drivers, as well as passenger vehicle drivers operating unsafely around them.

Marijuana and the Canadian Workplace

While the Canadian government has announced its intention to legalize the substance in the near future for non-medical recreational use, the possession of marijuana today still remains unlawful under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Its use for medical purposes however, is permitted under the Regulations to the Act.
