BCTA Wants Your Feedback on Taxation of Trailers Used with MJVs
The BCTA is seeking input regarding taxation of trailers used by MJVs. A previous article by the BCTA explained that despite efforts by the organization, the government has denied reinstating a previous Provincial Sales Tax concession for trailers that use both MJVs and vehicles licensed for use only in BC.
BCTA is asking companies that are being affected to voice their concerns. In particular, they are looking for examples where you must use a BC-plated vehicle with a trailer that is otherwise used primarily with an MJV.
PST in other provinces such as Manitoba and Saskatchewan apply a reasonable allocation of tax to these trailers for intrajurisdictional operation within each province, based on a percentage of intrajurisdictional vehicles in the carrier’s total fleet.
