Safety Tips - Public-Rail Safety Week
Operation Lifesaver, a national public-rail safety program, along with Transport Canada and the Railway Association of Canada, organized Public-Rail Safety Week, which took place April 28th – May 4th of this year.
Public-Rail Safety Week brings awareness to the fact that there are roughly 37,000 public, private and pedestrian highway/railway crossings in Canada, where a number of accidents and injuries still occur. The number of accidents in Canada has decreased from over 800 in 1980 to 188 in 2013. Plenty of safety measures were taken to reduce the number of accidents; however, there are still a number of fatal injuries occurring due to crossing collisions and trespassing on rail property.
With that being said, the BC Trucking Association has shared an article with safety tips for professional drivers, along with links to other sites that promote safety and bring awareness to this issue.
